Time flies, the upcoming summer vacation would be the busiest period during my three year college life. Two of my friends had decided to go to Australia to enjoy their life and take some part-time jobs at farm. I could not imagine that their salaries were 20,000 per week! The high consuming standard, however, would cost them lots of money. Maybe, one meal for 600$ was the common prize. Despite the expensive consuming standard in Australia, I still planned to go there next year.
This year, I would get my driver’s license of motorcycle. It was inconvenient for me to interview in different places. Sometimes, I had to transport MRT and bus for several tomes to reach the company. If I had gotten my license in this earlier summer, the length of commute would have been shortened into half. Finding job related to trade was not easy for an English majored student. Almost 90% of the trade companies required at least one year working experiences. Ironic as I felt, even if I took courses such as Marketing, Economics and World Trade Marketing Analysis, I still could not have courage to give it a try.
Luckily, the self-awareness reminded me of spending more time on this field and tried to work in a small company first to get used to how to deal with trade affairs. If possible, I would spare three hours at night advancing my Photoshop ability. The enthusiasm stimulated me to cultivate my hobby. Tired as I might feel, my summer vacation would not be completed without this software!

Design Exhibition
Hundreds of people lined up around the exhibition hall as I got off the bus. Through the same uniform they wore, I knew they were students from the same senior high school. To my astonishment, most of them were carefully reading the guide book and enthusiastically discussed which showroom they would visit first. Suddenly, three girls cheered that their friends were about to have a wonderful walk show on the exhibition. Standing among them, their vigor and energy quickly swept over every cells of my body. Phone rang and my friend yelled:”Where are you? I am stuck in the crowd of students. Where are you?” With puffs of breeze from the air conditioner, I was now steeping into the door of 2010Young Designer’s Exhibition to enjoy an innovative trip.
The Young Designer’s Exhibition founded in 1982 provided students from all over the world a stage to show their creative works. The exhibition was grand enough to include large varieties of design fields such as product design, package design, industrial design, interior design and visual communication design. Though this exhibition has been held for 28 years, it was my first time to attend it. To my amazement, some of the works were completed by students who spent money ranged from 40,000 to 175,000 dollar. What a money-consuming exhibition it was! I had never imagined that being a designer needed such an enormous expense which comprised 20,000 dollar for materials and 20,000 for place renting. High expenses as attending Young Designer’s Exhibition needed, it did build a bridge for students to connect to the world to fulfill their dreams.
Bored with a common fixed and rectangle bookshelf, one student came up with an idea to make a revolving bookshelf with spiral appearance. He spent almost 170,000 dollar to make his draft become a concrete one and finally won special price. Some companies even came to ask him if he was willing to cooperate with them to have the bookshelf listed. How a marvelous opportunity it was! In addition to this originality, with the consciousness of environment protection, a reducing garbage can was invented. Three triangle mirrors with two sides connected to one another to form a shape like an ice cream sundae would reflex the garbage thrown in the center. Two bottles through three mirrors could reflex at least six bottle images. Keep this multiplicative effect in mind. The designer’s appeal was to inform everyone of thinking twice before producing large amounts of garbage. I was surprised at student’s creative thinking but the works might have some disadvantages to be improved. The large production of mirrors to make this garbage can might cause pollution.
It was excellent that students could expand their design field deeply into our daily life. With the purpose of living a green and convenient life, most of students were targeted at finding solutions for current problems such as pollution or benefiting public. Though I was an English majored student, broaden my vision to design fields was my happiest moment to absorbing information and knowledge. As immersing myself in design exhibition, I was like a newborn baby who had curiosity of learning new things. 2010 Young Designer’s Exhibition would not be my last trip but become my first challenging one.

I Have a Dream
Recently, I have been thinking about my future career. I will have a company of designing industrial products in Germany in the future. My passion of designing will be credited by my teacher in elementary school. It is him that I love doing handcrafts and painting. It is him that inspires my potentials in arts. I attended all kinds of contents including card-design, poster-design, lantern-design and calligraphy. During each semester, I was as busy as bees but I really enjoyed it and would never regret. Though the frequency of participating contents was less often when I was in junior high school, I spend more time on taking a course which was about how to use a string and many beads to make animals such as sea-lion, Hello Kitty, panda and naughty leopard. However, I made a significant decision when I was in senior high school. Innocent as I was, I believed if I spared all of my time studying, my efforts would pay off. The results were totally different. Neither did I get a high score in the extremes exam nor did I advance my designing talent. Now, my inspirations of designing are gradually vanished. The only thing I could do is reading magazines related to designing. But I still do not give up my dream of being a designer. There are many outstanding students gain the famous IF award from Germany and one day I will be one of them.

The prince and the pauper
All the people of England wanted the new-born baby, the Prince Edward. But there was no talk about the poor baby, Tom Canty. Tom’s father made his children beg. When Tom came home with nothing, his father would beat him. But his mother was kind to him. Father Andrew was a poor priest who share the house with Tom’ family and taught the neighborhood children to read. Tom had quickly mastered reading and writing skills. He always haunted by one wish-to see the real prince. One day, Tom accidentally ran into the palace, met the real prince and even exchanged their roles by wearing the other’s clothes. Though horrified as Tom was, he gradually got used to the live of being a prince and showed his fairness to people when the king was dead. While hearing the bad news, Edward could do nothing but escape from Tom’s rude father who kept beating him. Fortunately, Edward saved by Miles, the son of Sir Richard Hendon. When it was time to coronate, the real prince, Edward, came running down the aisle. By pointing out where the seal was, Edward had been crowned. Finally, Tom was awarded because of his righteousness.
Often, we are dissatisfied with our life and wander if I were he, I would be better. In fact, the person is similar to the prince who had big fortune or authority that we are longing for. But we are not in his shoes and do not know what bothering him. Rich people always fees too busy to accompany their family. Renowned people want their privacy. Poor people long for a better life. No matter we are born in which classes, we have the treasure that makes us unique.

No Tea Time between 15:00 and 16:00
A few days ago, I was shocked at the news of no tea time between 15:00 and 16:00. In this period, most of the college students may consider to have a cup of black tea and a piece of chocolate cake and I was no expection. Though I had already eaten a harvest lunch, after two hours of learning, I was a little hungry. As I went out, along the street, there were a lot of vendors selling all kinds of delicious foods such as red bean cake and onion cake. I just could not help but rush to the vendors and bought some food to fullfill my satisfaction. However, after the news was released, I felt guilty of eating dessert. It was said that if I eat 1000 calories during 15:00 and 16:00, I will absorb 900 calories; if I eat the same calories during dinner time, I will only absorb 700-800 calories. For those who could not endure the delicious tea time dessert, please think twice before you eat. Maybe your eating habits affect the reason why you cannot lose weight!!

gay marriage
Traditionally, marriage is referred to man and woman but how about the marriage between man and man or woman and woman. In the U.S., if you ask people how you feel about homosexuality, nearly seventy percent of people will respond “Yes, gays should have the same rights as the normal couple such as, the equal protection of law.” However, few countries in the world have been legalized for gay marriage. It is prohibited by law and is still condemned by the public for many stereotypes. I admit it is hard to persuade everyone accepts gay marriage but my opinion is that gay should have their rights in deciding their mates.
People may claim that homosexuality is against the moral of marriage. “Bible shows that gay relationship is not permitted so I do not agree with it.” a typical disciple said. While it is true that you hold your religious freedom and believes the holy Bible, but this objection ignores what your own thought toward the issue. Sometimes, you should get out of the restrictions that religions impose on you so that you could hear your inner voice. Many people, before they believes in religions, might not against gay marriage but after they become Christian, the agreement toward gay relationship totally disappear because they do not want to violate the rules. However, the meaning of freedom in religion also implies not losing your freedom in religion. Religion is a form to give you peace rather than take out of your right to think.
People might accept that gay marriage might be legalized but they are worried about the wild spread of homosexuality in public and school. Surely, I cannot disagree with the fact that in public and school, there might suddenly appear many homosexuality but why don’t you look on the positive side that the benefits of gay marriage might solve current social problems. It is because gay marriages have been legalized in Denmark since 1989 that have changed people’s bias. They begin to reconsider that the law might beneficial to our society including the reduction in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. AIDS is rising steadily in Asia. As of July 2003, India's HIV-positive people numbered about 4.6 million, roughly 0.9% of the working adult population. In China the number was roughly from 1 million to 1.5 million. However, Hugo Mialon and Andrew Francis, Two researchers from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, used thirty years of data to reduce rates of HIV/AIDS infection to attitudes of tolerance towards lesbian and gay Americans. They found that “Bans on gay marriage [cause] more gay people to shift to sexual behaviors that carry more risk.” It is important that gay marriage would more or less decrease the rate of AIDS so long as it is legalized in more countries.
People might claim that base on their religious freedom, they are against but in doing this, you do not really gain freedom in religion because you lose out of yourself. Also, people are afraid of the wild spread of same-sex couple but don’t you scare of the rising of AIDS around the world? Gay marriage might not be so horror as you have imagined. Perhaps, you should give them the same equality because they also need respect from others as married couples.

Departures
This was a touching film that changed my attitude toward the job of putting dead body into coffin. Daigo used to be a famous cello player but lost his job as he did not have enough money to pay for the debt. He saw the classified ad entitled “departure,” and there were no limitation for capabilities. As he went to the interview, what shocked him was the job went beyond his expectation but later on reluctantly accepted it. Daigo’s first task was to move the dead body which made him vomit. The employer’s peaceful attitude toward the death calmed Daigo down. As time passed, he gradually took pride in this job and felt respect for his employer. However, his wife, Mika, asked him to quit it or she would go back to her hometown. What made Daigo astonished was Mika’s response to his job. A word “Disgusting.” beat Daigo’s heart violently and he made up his mind to stick to the job. Hard as Daigo felt, his friend even blamed him for working at this kind of job. Things changed as the woman who run the public bath died. Daigo’s wife and his friend turned their bias into respect for him. Finally, Daigo knew that his father still cared about him and as he died, he still treasured the little stone.
Mika always supported Daigo when he bought an expensive cello and went in debt without informing her. The scene still deeply rooted in my mind. As Mika found out about Daigo’s work, she could not bear any more but burst out a word “Disgusting.” that hurt his husband’s heart. If I were Mika, would I respond the same way just because he was my husband? His hands had touched the dead body and it must be dirty. I would not be willing to live with him unless he quit the job. Later on, Mika was pregnant and asked Daigo how he would be proud of his job and would not let his children feel ashamed of his father’s profession. Of course, children often had fathers around to act as role models. If I were the child whose father’s job was to beautify the dead people, I would not really appreciate him. But after seeing Departures, I realized it was because of the bias existed among us that shaped our perception toward things. I would like to looked on the bright side and consider Daigo’s job was an honor for the death.
The big and small stone not only linked Daigo and his father but also Daigo and his child. Daigo only had the vague image of his father and mad at his father for abandoning his family. However, his wife held the opposite opinion about Daigo’s mother’s feeling about his father. Daigo’s mother must love his father so much or she would not arrange the Disc orderly. My father was a serious person and never did he give me award as I made progress in academic work. One time, as I went back home, a new bicycle stood right in the balcony. I just could not help cry and ran to my father. He must feel proud of my diligence and I was moved by his unusual way of showing his love for me. Parents’ love would be forever unless I did not want to catch it. At the significant moment, Daigo passed down the stone to his unborn baby to show his love as his father had done.
I will recommend this touching movie to two groups. One is people who as I, at beginning, feel afraid of the job and do not have courage to appreciate it. But “Departure” do change my prejudice and now, I believe each kind of job have its dignity. Everyone should always put their foot in other’s shoes and do not judge things by its appearance. The second is younger generation who change their job frequently. There are no perfect jobs unless you contribute yourself in it and have confident of what you have done.
