Movie Review: Emmanuel’s Gift

This is a toughed and encouraging film that changes my attitude toward handicapped people. Emmanuel was born with physical handicaps in Ghana, western Africa. It is said that those who have physical handicaps were cursed by the devil. Thus, there were no education or job opportunities offered for them. However, Emmanuel’s childhood was different from most handicapped children. Though abandoned by his father, he had a positive thinking mother who never gave up. Emmanuel had a dream of having a bicycle and rode across his country. Even though not having enough money and sound limbs, he wanted to prove the stereotypes put on handicaps were wrong. To his amazement, one of the founders of the CAF was impressed by Emmanuel’s beliefs. After the trip to the states, he had a new artificial limb and set up a goal to improve the handicaps’ life in Ghana. When returning home, he worked with The Free Wheel Chair Mission to make 100 simple wheelchairs. Those wheelchairs gave handicapped people dignity and pain-relieving
I now realize how important the family members have the impact on my achievements. It is the supporters that give me power to overcome every obstacle on my way to success. Without their encouragements and helps, I won’t have strong determination to challenge my self in order to make differences in my life. I remembered when I was 12 years old, my teacher praise me for doing an excellent job on calligraphy. That made me feels a sense of achievement. When I was in elementary school, junior high school and senior high school, I participated in all kinds of calligraphy contests. Whenever wining the price, I was really appreciated my teacher. Now, it became one of my favorite hobbies.
It is such an aspirating film that I would show this film to two different groups of people. The first group is government officials. For some of the African countries, the handicapped peoples should have allowances such as education allowances and health allowance. Another group is entrepreneurs who have to provide handicaps job opportunities and show equally respect for them. Everyone has its gifts and what our life would be depends on how we thought about our gifts. One thing I will keep in mind is that always said: “I hope I would do a great job as wonderful as those Emmanuel had done rather than luckily, I was not a handicap as Emmanuel.
